Any time we experience an ailment, regardless of its form - physical disease or a condition impacting the mind - the experience can range from frustrating to debilitating. Herpes is one that has no known cure and merits particular attention.

There are five stages of herpes, each defined by the progression of the herpes outbreak. With the first herpes outbreak after the contraction of the disease, these stages are often pronounced and dramatic.

To learn more about the various stages of herpes sore development, along with information on healing after an outbreak and how to avoid spreading the disease, keep reading.

    Stages of Herpes

    Redness and Mild Irritation

The first stage of a herpes outbreak is generally a redness and mild irritation in the area where the outbreak will occur. Sufferers may feel or may notice an area that’s painful or overly sensitive and clearly irritated.

    Swelling

The area will begin to swell and, depending on the individual, this swelling may or may not be immediately noticeable.

    Small Blisters

Typically, with a genital herpes outbreak, small blisters will begin to appear. They will be filled with either red, clear or whitish fluid and will form over the area that was previously affected by swelling and redness. They may manifest as a single or multiple blisters.

    Wet Ulcers

Wet ulcers are one of the most painful stages of herpes. They are what happens when herpes blisters burst or break. Once the blisters are drained, the individual is left with open sores that are raw, tender and very sensitive.

    Scabs or Dry Crust

Once the wet ulcers begin healing, scabs will start to form over the region. Eventually, the dry crusts will harden and new skin will start to grow. Over time, the scab will fall off.

    Completing the Healing Process

After a herpes outbreak, healing is considered complete once the scabs fall off or the sores dry up and disappear. The skin may still appear red, but it is no longer sore or visibly affected.

    Spreading Herpes

Even though your herpes outbreak may be over and done with, you can still spread the disease. When an outbreak isn’t present, this is called the asymptomatic phase, which means there are no symptoms. However, the disease is still present and though the risk is small, it can still be spread.

Since there is no treatment to fully affect or prevent the spread of genital herpes, it’s critical that people who have been diagnosed with genital herpes always use a condom or latex barrier during sexual contact.

It’s also important to remember that condoms are not 100% effective in preventing the transmission of herpes. If the affected area is outside the area covered or protected by the condom, the disease may still be spread.

Remember, even if the various stages of herpes aren’t occurring and you have no symptoms, you can still spread the disease.

A Heart rate monitor is a gadget that measures the heart rate of the user in a real time. It consists of two parts: a transmitter which is a strap like think and is worn around the chest and a receiver to display or record data. Heart rate monitor without straps are also available but are devoid of some of the functions of the original one. Some advanced models also measures variability in the heart rate which is helpful in accessing user’s fitness.

    Working of the transmitter

The chest strap, which is worn around the chest, has sensor pads or electrodes. These electrodes must contact the skin directly in order to monitor the heart’s electrical voltages. When the sensors detect a heart beat, it transmits a radio signal which is used by the receiver to find out the current heart rate. The signal transmitted can be a unique coded signal or simply a plain radio pulse. The unique coded signal prevents the receivers to receive and use signals from nearby transmitters.

    Working of the receiver

The receivers which is worn on the wrist and looks like a watch also know as a (heart rate monitor watch) receives the signal transmitted from the transmitter. Galore of receiver designs are available with many advanced features which includes average heart rate during the exercises, calories burned, and in a specific zone of heart rate. Not only that, you can download all the details to a computer.

BioHarness: more than a heart rate monitor

This gadget is a combination of heart rate and breathing rate sensors, activity, body temperature, and posture and uses multiple bio-mechanical and physiological sensors. It is used for the purpose of monitoring remote patient, looking after the harms of fireman and soldiers, and athletes who require many things apart from heart rate to find out their fitness. The Bluetooth feature is what makes BioHarness more useful. It has interfaces over mobile phones or VHF radios and you can view its diagnostic software from any part of the world.

Galore of heart rate monitors are available in the market but it is up to you to select one according to your needs. Search on the internet and find the best one for yourself. Also before buying any product, check the authentication of the store from which you are buying the heart rate monitor because there are some stores which are frauds. They will sell you a product with lots of features and will give you no warranty or guarantee. So go for a product which has at least few months warranty.

Mesothelioma is a cancer that appears in the lungs’ linings. Experts believe that its main cause is contact with asbestos. There are about 3000 new cases reported every year in the United States. Roughly 8 million people have been exposed to asbestos in the last 50 years. Beginning a few decades ago, safety measures were put in place so that asbestos exposure was at first minimized and eventually will be nonexistent. Because of this, some experts believe that mesothelioma will continue to be prevalent until about 2020, and that thereafter it will begin to decline. By then, asbestos exposure should be quite rare.

As with any cancer, it is imperative that the mesothelioma patient is treated as early as possible for best survival odds. However, those who have mesothelioma are at a disadvantage because of the time factor. In many cases, patients first diagnosed with mesothelioma actually had their exposures 20 to 50 years prior. Because of this, patients are usually over the age of 50. In addition, first symptoms are nebulous and can be attributed to many things, which means that diagnosis is very difficult. Because of this, mesothelioma can be quite advanced once it is detected. There is no fully effective treatment available to cure mesothelioma. However, most experts believe that monotherapy is less effective than combination therapy in treating this disease. Mesothelioma treatments continue to be researched.

Studies focusing on mesothelioma survival rate show dismal results, with a mortality rate of almost 100%. Patients diagnosed with mesothelioma survive, on average, six months to two years. However, there are exceptions, which continue to give other mesothelioma patients and their families hope. Patients’ life expectancy depends on many things, including the state of advancement at diagnosis (mesothelioma has four stages), as well as the type of mesothelioma diagnosed. Tissue structures were tested to find the type of cells within, and it was found that sarcomatous cells put the patient’s median survival rate at about 11 months, with 11 months for mixed cells and 12.5 months for epithelial cells.

However, there are other ways to positively influence survival rate if someone has mesothelioma. Approximately 9% of mesothelioma patients survive five years after diagnosis, which shows that there are people who do survive over the long-term with this type of cancer. In some cases, these patients are symptom free. Research continues, so that one day a cure may be found.

If a patient is otherwise healthy at time of diagnosis, then his or her survival rate will be favorably impacted. In addition, if the tumor can be removed fully and is smaller versus larger, this is also going to positively influence survival rate. The amount of fluid in the chest cavity at time of diagnosis is also important. The type of cells present such as was described above is also important. Survival rate is likely to be poor if the cancer has recurred versus whether it has been newly diagnosed.

If you have mesothelioma or a family member does, it’s important to focus on hope. The Internet is a great resource if you find yourself in this situation. You can find groups online with others in the same situation, and support and encouragement with this disease is important. In addition, you’ll be privy to the latest treatments available for the disease. This can make it difficult situation much easier to deal with. And of course, your health care practitioner will also likely have resources he or she can give you.
