This is the state where the spinal disc is herniated. The protrusion of the nucleus can cause swelling and impinge a nerve root. Another cause is the Piriformis syndrome. This is where the Piriformis muscle, located at the buttock part, is impinging or compressing the sciatic nerve. The compression is because of spasms caused by accident or trauma to the Piriformis muscle.
Spinal tumors are also causing sciatica because of the growth of these tumors are compressing the nerve. These tumors may induce terrible back pain and may run up to the lower extremity area such as the legs and feet. Pregnancy can also cause sciatica, this is because as the baby grows, it also stretches the uterus and thus impinges on the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is often triggered by work related issues, for example if you carry something to heavy for yourself.
The measures to be taken in order to relieve sciatica may differ depending on the cause. The most common relief for sciatica is taking in anti-inflammatory medications. Therapy is also another way of relieving sciatica. If you do want something that you can do at home, you can try doing some stretches. Worst case scenario for relief is when you need to have surgery. Surgery however is risky and the process would involve removal of a nerve that is within the spine. One wrong move then more damage could be made and thus leading to a more serious problem.
Sciatica may come from a number of causes and have a number of remedies. Being careful with your body is probably the best way for you to not experience sciatica.

Losing Weight in the Office
Filed under: Health and Fitness;No CommentsAs soon as I left college, I realized that losing weight was not as easy to come by since I got home at around 7 pm and all I really wanted to do was laze in my favorite couch, grab a bag of potato chips and watch TV. My Men’s briefcase would find itself automatically on the doorstep time and again, since I couldn’t even musterthe strength to bring it up to the bedroom. I struggled with my weight for several years until I discovered I was already tipping the scales at 230 lbs in just a span of 11 months.
I decided to turn my life around and get on some weight loss program. The problem was, my job did not really allow me enough time to get out of the office and hit a 45-minute workout at the nearby gym. I had to develop some quick techniquesinstead of just carrying my Attache case. Here are some of the tried and proven methods that helped me get back to 180 lbs.
1. Pack your lunch. I’ve been eating a lot of donuts during conferences and meetings in the office, as well as grabbed too much fast food. 4. Motivate yourself more. Find another person in work who can also set the same goal of losing more weight for good. This partner will be your workout buddy. Encourage and psych up each other, taking measurements and comparing notes and gym logs. I tried using my boss as my official workout buddy during the final stages of my weight loss program. The best thing about this approach is that I almost never skippeda single workout. I also kept my diet clean for several weeks. My boss almost gave me a promotion for helping him lose the fat too.
